Glass is so beautiful which means you can make dark things with it!

Portrait Julie Anne Denton

Julie Anne Denton is originally from the Isle of Man a crown dependency of the UK situated in the Irish sea. The island is known as the jewel of the Celtic kingdom where the Gaelic Kings of Kings would meet in days gone by. Julie Anne has been working in glass since 1996. Alongside her personal artwork Julie makes bespoke work in industry and for institutions whilst working as head of Research & Development for studio production design firm Atelier #315 in Zürich.

After her academic studies in glass, printmaking & philosophy Julie completed her apprenticeship with glassblower Emilio Santini from the famous Italian island of Murano. She worked under fine artist Morris Day before extending her glass and sculpture studies in America. Julie Anne learnt further techniques in glass and thoughts in art from four other famous artists, and she finally rounded off her education with Bertil Vallien of the renowned Swedish design house Kosta Boda (est. 1742).

Thereafter she completed her PhD studies in Glass as Fine Art, and Dr Denton shows her personal work throughout Europe and further afield. In 2010 Julie settled in Switzerland and collaborates with a bespoke team by her side.
